Chick Fil-O-Sophy

Guys. It is not wrong for Chick-Fil-A to express their beliefs. And it is not wrong for me to not give them money because of same. That’s the free market — the same free market that took Glenn Beck off TV.

People’s First Amendment rights are violated when they say something and THEN ARE DETAINED OR PUT IN JAIL FOR THE THINGS THEY SAID. That’s it. Everything else is free expression and commerce. I disagree with the causes that Chick-Fil-A supports, therefore I will not give them money that could go to those causes. You disagree with Native Energy? Great. I think you’re wrong, but stop buying Ben & Jerry’s because that Ice Cream is trying fight carbon emissions. See? The system works.

And one more thing (and by the way, I KNOW, I’m a sitcom hack, who am I to chime in, but in these days when a person can put on a tri-cornered hat and declare himself a constitutional scholar and religious expert BEHOLD, I am the Right Reverend John Ross Bowie, J.D.) the “point-out-the-hypocrisy-in-Leviticus” argument has been made a million times, and it holds water. You can’t cite the “man shall not lay with man” passage without also acknowledging all the weird stuff that’s in there, like how you can’t mix fabrics, how to stone adulterers, how dwarves can’t make offerings to the Lord and how to keep Kosher (which Chick-Fil-A decidedly does not).

So sometimes people will cite Romans 1, which would appear to condemn gays, depending on your knowledge of ancient tongues. But there’s also a lovely passage in Romans 2 that says “for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.”
